StorySeekers offers a selection of options for creating your family history, personal history or memoir.
Oral history: This option includes a series of recorded interviews. The number of interviews will be up to you. Interviews will be conducted in sessions of no more than two hours at a time, but preferably one hour sessions. We will then provide either a straight transcription of the interviews (edited to remove extraneous “uhs” and so forth). Or we will take the interviews and develop them into a narrative, creating a chronological story or a series of short stories.
Client-written 1: In this option, you will write your own story. StorySeekers will take the written text and put it into book form, doing light editing and handling the design and production of the book.
Client-written 2: This option will include extensive editing or even a complete rewrite of the text, using the your prepared material as a base. We can also work from notes combined with interviews to develop a narrative.
Prepared by StorySeekers: We will research and/or write your family history publication for you.
Select any of the above and add graphics in the form of photographs and documents. We can help sort and select appropriate photographs and documents and handle scanning them for inclusion. Items such as family trees can be created. We will also index your book and create a table of contents.
Printed and stapled pages: This is the least expensive and a very simple way to make sure memories are written down and saved. Pages will have a simple index paper cover. This option is usually only done with straight oral history transcriptions.
Spiral book: This includes a heavy paper cover with cover design and clear plastic top and bottom. Any of the above can be done in this style. The maximum thickness for this style is no more than 3/4 inch.
Soft-cover: This is a paperback option. It includes a full-color cover with quality binding. Sizes available are 5 x 8, 6 x 9, or 8-1/2 x 11.
Hard cover: This is the best option for a quality book that will be passed down through generations. Only quality materials are used. Covers can be foil-stamped, printed with color images, or enclosed in dust jackets. Bindings are of exceptional quality and are guaranteed to last. Standard sizes are 6 x 9 or 8-1/2 x 11. Custom sizes are also available.
Your soft or hard cover book will be created on a real printing press, not photocopied, for a crisp, polished look. Paper will be of high quality, exceptional whiteness and archival. We work with a very reliable printing firm that specializes in memoir and family history books. They will print one or a thousand—whatever your needs.
Costs will vary depending on your choice from the above options. Interviewing and book development are based on an hourly rate, currently $40. Printing costs will be determined by the printer.
